KAILUA

The Seagull School in Kailua has been in operation since 1971.   It is licensed by the Department of Human Services for 38 children aged 3 years to 5 years and is among the elite centers to be accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).   Non-toilet trained children are welcomed.   The center is open from 6:30am to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday and provides full-time care only.

Through participation in the Department of Agriculture Child Food Program, the school provides a nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack served family style, which allows children to serve themselves and develop additional skills and responsibilities that meet U.S.D.A. guidelines.   Food should NOT BE SENT TO SCHOOL with children unless it is part of a special diet or due to allergies.

The center has a "No Candies" policy.   Parents are not allowed to send cakes or candy to school.

The school's two classrooms are divided into smaller groups that allow for individualized attention.   The large playground space is complemented by a covered lanai area that allows for children to be active outdoors even in rainy weather.

The school is conveniently located on the Pali Highway near Castle Hospital and the bus line that goes directly to downtown Honolulu.

The relatively small size of the school and its mix of male and female teachers give it a warm family-like feeling.   Weekly excursions to the neighboring senior center where children mingle with grandmas and grandpas add to the family like atmosphere.
